What is the Server Pool?
After years of free hosting for TJ students and alumni at TJTech.org, it was time to move on to bigger and better things. Most member webpages had grown far too large to be held on a small reseller account. Many users found themselves paying for shared hosting of their own, hosting from home, or paying for a full dedicated server. The TJTech.org Server Pool is a new way to bring all those users together, as well as all the projects and websites which developed as a result of their creativity. Here you will find, as well as many personal pages, the official pages of TJbash.org, the TJ quote database, and TJ Games, a charity site run by TJ students.
How do I join?
To join, contact Eric, who will set you up with an account. His contact info is at the bottom of the page. Pricing currently starts at $10 a month, with reduced rates available for those with financial restrictions.
What features do I get?
Our server, located in Nuremberg, Germany, is an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ with 1GB RAM and dual 160GB hard disks. Datacenter uplink clocks in at about 62Gbps. Ping times run at a respectable 100ms. We run Debian, and have many packages installed (just ask us for more): Apache 2, PHP 5, Ruby, Python, MySQL 5, Perl, and more. Users will find there are no hard quotas, our goal is to be as flexible as possible.
Are you "green"?
We sure are. Our datacenter gets its electricity from water power, a renewable resource, leaving our server operations 100% CO2 emission free. If you need environmentally conscious hosting, we should fit the bill.
Who’s hosted?
While there are quite a few private sites, here are some sites which we proudly host:
TJbash.org - The TJHSST Quote Repository
TJGames - A charity website which features TJ student made games
What's up with the huge image?
It's the TJ switch located in the Computer Systems Lab, and it's huge because yours truly hasn't quite got the hang of designing websites on a 1920x1200 monitor.
Who runs the Pool?
Eric Harmon (eric <at> tjtech.org) created the content, manages everyone, and handles the funds.
